Singapore’s Straits Times index – the main stock index of Singapore – is composed of the 30 largest public listed companies which greatly influence the economy of Red Dot, Southeast Asia, and the world. The following list presents these economic heavyweights and their activities, together with useful links.
List of the 30 components of the STI index
Large companies in Singapore usually become Public Limited Companies (PLC) to be able to obtain capital from stock markets. The term “Limited”, shows that these companies’ liability is limited to their capital.
In Singapore, publicly listed companies are quoted in the Singapore Exchange, which is in charge of the trading of stocks and enforcing rules to ensure proper market conditions. The Singapore Exchange is itself a component of the Straits Times Index and a member of the ASEAN Exchanges.
To ease the appreciation and exchanges of securities of the Singaporean market, the stock prices of the thirty largest public listed companies of Singapore are compiled together to form the FTSE Straits Times Index – abbreviated FTSE STI or simply STI -, a capitalization-weighted index that is widely accepted as the benchmark index of Singapore.
For the latest rankings, check the top companies of Singapore and many more, including US companies, UK companies, Canadian companies, and Australian companies on the Disfold data platform.
The FTSE STI index
The real-time quotation of the FTSE Straits Times Index – FTSE STI – can be followed from the Singapore Exchange’s website as well as from the convenient graphical tools of Yahoo Finance, Bloomberg or the ASEAN Exchanges. For more information on the STI index and the up-to-date weights of each stock, check the information from the FTSE website.
Details of the top 30 largest listed companies of Singapore
To present the profiles of these economic giants, the list of the thirty companies that compose the STI index – the thirty largest PLCs of Singapore -, has been assembled with details of each company’s activities, direct links to their websites and stock prices live charts from the Singapore Exchange.
Some of these companies are subsidiaries from the same common group, and some are not headquartered in Singapore. But many of these companies, including some subsidiaries of the same mother company are also some of the largest companies in Southeast Asia.
